Open University of the University of Jyväskylä

Open University is an integral part of the University of Jyväskylä, promoting educational equality and lifelong learning. We are proud to call ourselves the largest and most versatile open university in Finland, with 14 000 students annually.

The Open University offers over 40 bachelor-level subjects in Finnish from the faculties of the University of Jyväskylä, as well as a wide range of general studies, including language and communication courses. We are specialised in distance learning – web-based learning environments play a significant role in our study

The education is provided either as the University’s own instruction or in cooperation with currently around 60 regional partner institutions located in various parts of Finland. These partners are providing also other types of adult education than open university education.

Finnish open universities provide the opportunity to pursue university studies regardless of age or educational background. The teaching offered at the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä is of an equally high standard as the teaching offered at the University of Jyväskylä. It is not possible to complete degree studies at the Open University, however the credits completed at open universities will contribute towards a degree if the student is admitted to a university in order to complete degree studies.
