About us – the Open University is open for you

The Open University of the University of Jyväskylä (JYUOpen) is an integral part of the University of Jyväskylä, promoting educational equality and lifelong learning. We are proud to call ourselves the largest and most versatile open university in Finland, with 16 000 students annually. We strenghten the University's profile as a leading adult educator and teachers' educator with a nationally remarkable volume and high pedagogical quality, offering flexible and versatile modes of study, which will also provide opportunities for internationalization.

The Open University offers around 40 bachelor-level subjects in Finnish from the faculties of the University of Jyväskylä, as well as a wide range of general studies. We are specialized in distance learning. Online learning environments play significant role in our study.

In English you can study educational science courses and also courses on the topic of ICT in education. In JYU Open, you cannot study for a degree, but the studies are genuine university studies and credits can usually be accepted as part of your degree studies.

The education is provided either as the University’s own instruction or in cooperation with currently around 50 regional partner institutions located in various parts of Finland. These partners are providing also other types of adult education than open university education.
