FORTHEM

FORTHEM is a European University Alliance designed to enhance the mobility of students and staff, to bolster stakeholder collaboration, and to increase the civic participation of students. The University of Jyväskylä is one of 9 European universities that make up the Alliance. JYU's involvement in the Alliance entails the development of continuous learning products and services through the JYU Open University. The activities are supported by the European Commission.

The University of Jyväskylä and JYUOpen are engaged in the international consortium FORTHEM (Fostering Outreach within European Regions, Transnational Higher Education and Mobility). FORTHEM is part of the European Universities Initiative, funded by the European Commission. Initially operating from 2019 to 2022, in summer 2022 the Alliance was granted further funding for four more years all through 2026.
