JYU degree students and studies in the Open University

Students pursuing degree studies at the University of Jyväskylä (JYU) can also study at the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä by paying a fee or free of charge. By paying the general study fee, a student can choose any courses or modules available in the offering of the Open University. Undergraduates registered for attendance at JYU can also apply for free-of-charge study rights.

In order to speed up the pass-through rates in degree programmes, the Rector offers bachelor’s and master’s degree students an opportunity for free-of-charge studies in certain Open University subjects within a quota system.

  • Degree students can participate in any international course free of charge.
  • You can apply for a course through HelpJYU.
  • There are no registration deadlines for free degree studies.

If you are JYU degree student, you can enroll on the courses free of charge. Please contact the Open University's Student Services via HelpJYU online customer service.

Commitment to the studies

The applicants are expected to commit to the studies. A selected student can cancel his/her participation before the study right comes into effect. The studies need to be completed within the valid study right period. A granted study right period cannot be rescheduled.
