Hayes van der Meer: Excellent Insight into Finnish Education through MOOCs
I am an Australian school teacher with 20 years experience. In 2019, I was awarded the St. Patrick’s Research Fellowship which will form part of a PhD study. I am comparing traditional Australian Indigenous pedagogy with modern Finnish education. So, the world's oldest living pedagogy with world-best practice.
As part of my in-depth study of Finnish education, I could not have found a better place than the University of Jyväskylä and its Open University.
I studied three MOOCs (massive open online courses). I gained an excellent insight into Finnish education by studying Basic Education, Guidance & Counselling, and Educational Leadership in Finnish educational system.
This comprehensive and in-depth study was nothing but excellent. The 'Further Readings' very also interesting and felt like an added bonus.
The Open University offers smooth, high-quality studies online
The study content of the MOOCs was of absolut world-class standard. Participating in the online courses was very smooth and streamlined. The Finnish certainly know about technology and how to make it user friendly. I also found my tutor's responses prompt and very helpful.
I gained exactly what I was hoping for: A solid understanding and genuine appreciation for Finnish education, and plenty of inspiration and ideas for me to use in my research.
I would recommend these courses to all teachers. Anyone who teaches owes themselves and their students the insights I gained from the courses. If you want the best for your students, you will need to learn from world-best practice. Doing it online through the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä is smooth, effective and highly professional.
