ICT in Guidance and Counselling, Anna Kalpio: A great way to learn more about the possibilities technology provides
“I’m Anna Kalpio, and currently I work as a study advisor in higher education. I have degrees in languages and communication, as well as supplementary studies in educational sciences.
Originally a colleague of mine told me about the course Information and Communication Technology in Guidance and Counselling, offered by JYUOpen. I decided to participate and completed this course during spring 2020.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course: The group was international and versatile, and the teacher was enthusiastic about the contents which made this course insightful and interesting. The online teaching and the flexible schedule allowed me to complete this course while working full-time, and the content was a nice mixture of theory and practise. The teacher also gave us individual feedback during course and upon the marking of the course, which I found helpful and motivational.
This course gave me a solid theoretical framework for using many new technologies, such as social media, which I have been using in my work more than before.
The course Information and Communication Technology in Guidance and Counselling proved to be even more topical in spring 2020 than I expected when enrolling at the start of the year. Because of the pandemic situation, which resulted in my switching to remote guidance at work, I was extra keen to learn more about the possibilities technology provides for guidance counselling.
This course gave me a solid theoretical framework for using many new technologies, such as social media, which I have been using in my work more than before. Also, lately I have been using several tools in my work, which were introduced during the course, e.g. infographics, video and chat exercises.
I recommend the course Information and Communication Technology in Guidance and Counselling to anyone working in the field education (teacher or staff) or in customer service related to counselling and guidance.
I recommend the course Information and Communication Technology in Guidance and Counselling to anyone working in the field of education (teacher or staff) or in customer service related to counselling and guidance. If you are open to new technologies and preferably have at least some background in IT tools to build on, this course is for you.”
